Brooklyn in the house

An hour ago we got a shipment of glasses from Brooklyn Spectacles. These gorgeous frames are plastic, but they look like they're made of wood. You get the cool look of wood and none of the durability problems - best of both worlds! They are designed in Williamsburg and handmade in Japan. Come check them out soon. Mykita love

A patient brought in this gorgeous pair of Mykita sunglasses to get his prescription filled. The production run was limited to 50 pairs worldwide - all of which were instantly grabbed up by collectors. He's taken these shades to 3 other offices and then finally to Pretty Handsome. We were the only office that he actually trusted to take the frame and design the lenses.

His prescription is moderately high and includes a truck load of irregular astigmatism. That would be a serious enough set of lens in a traditional frame, but it's quite a challenge when paired with a large square shaped frame. We had to do 2 test runs with premium n1.74 research lenses. Then for the final set we digitally-surfaced a set of high-index lenses in our Sunset Park production facility. After that I personally finished them by hand at another Brooklyn lab and did the final assembly at Pretty Handsome in Manhattan. It took some time and was a quite a fun challenge for all of us involved.

What's the final verdict?

The patient picked them up an hour ago and was so happy that he put them on immediately and is still wearing them after sundown. Mega success!

We're back

Pretty Handsome Optometry is finally open again after Hurricane Sandy paid us a little visit. Thankfully we didn't have any wind or water damage. We did have a few electrical and equipment problems, but those are 100% fixed now. 

For those of you with appointments that got canceled, we will be contacting you shortly to get you rescheduled.

Our thoughts go out to the people who are still without power and trying to get back on their feet.

Hooray - it's our 1st anniversary!

Pretty Handsome Optometry is now 1 year old! Thank you to all the many fantastic patients who have come to our office. You are the reason that we're here and the reason why we continue to survive. Dr. Ritenour, Frank, Jess, and the lab staff greatly appreciate your business. 

 

We just finished reviewing our records from year 1. We saw patients who live in Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Washington D.C., Washington state, and Wisconsin. That's half of all the states in the U.S. Perhaps next year we'll see folks from the other 25 states.

Outside of the United States, we saw patients visiting from Argentina, Belarus, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Dominican Republic, England, France, Germany, Greece, Haiti, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Senegal, Slovakia, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Vietnam. Lots of our local patients were so pleased with their experience at Pretty Handsome that they sent their family members to us when they visited the U.S. Plus the many hotels around the office have gotten word that the service and products here are first rate. Our doc gets to meet so many people from around the world and has loved every second of it!

We have many exciting plans and developments scheduled for the future. Stayed tuned to learn about our events, promotions, and a few secret surprises. This year was fun, but next year we're going to turn it up to 11!
